IPL Free Streaming Will Be A Game-Changer
According to the reports, Jio will live stream the IPL 2023 in 11 different languages. This includes English, Hindi and other regional languages. IPL viewership has seen a consistent increase with each passing year. Over the last 3-4 years, OTT platforms have risen and have been a great value-for-money prospect.
This is also likely to increase the viewership for the IPL 2023 on digital platforms, as it doesn’t cost any money to stream the matches, once the broadcasters acquire digital streaming rights. The Challenge Will Be Tough For Jio
Considering the humongous traffic in IPL, JioCinema needs to be well-equipped for the heavy traffic in IPL matches. It faced a lot of issues in streaming the FIFA World Cup 2022, where, many users reported various issues with the OTT platform at the event’s start. The issues were resolved at a later stage, but they also know that IPL will be a different ball game altogether.
It demands much more viewers on average, as compared to the World Cup viewership, and JioCinema has a lot of work to do to ensure that the matches go unhindered.
Challenges are surely going to make them super-ready when the IPL 2023 kicks start. To recall, Reliance Jio has acquired the IPL digital rights after paying Rs 23,578 crore for the tenure of the next 5 years (2023-2027). The tv rights are with Star India, who paid 48,390 crores.
