IPL 2023 Schedule: Tournament Likely To Start On 1st April: Report. As we come closer to the end of another calendar year, cricket fans across the globe are already starting to get excited about the next IPL edition. Every year before the IPL kicks off, all the IPL franchises assemble for the IPL auction. This is a routine process, which gives the franchise an option to get the best possible set of players in their team. The IPL 2023 mini-auction will happen in Kochi on 23rd December.
IPL 2023 Retention Overview
All 10 teams were told to submit their retained list of players before the IPL 2023 mini-auction. After the deadline ended, out of 248 players, all 10 teams combined retained 163 players, while 85 were released. It was followed by BCCI coming up with the details of the base price of the players, which saw some surprises.

BCCI Figuring Out The Dates For IPL
According to some reports, BCCI is planning to start the 16th edition of IPL on 1st April 2023. Regarding the end date, they are trying to wrap up the event by May end. This is due to the packed Internation cricket calendar from June first week. The finals of the ICC Test championship will be played on June 2nd week, which will be followed by the all-important “Ashes”, which will commence on June 16th

IPL 2023 Is Likely To Have A Delayed Start
As per the reports coming in from the BCCI, the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League will start on 1st April 2023. This delay of around a week is due to the proposed inaugural women’s IPL, which will take place between March 3rd– March 26th. BCCI is mulling of having a week’s break between the Women’s IPL and the men’s IPL. Both these cricket leagues will be held in India.
Women’s Inaugural IPL To Take Place In March
The inaugural women’s IPL will take place in March 2023. BCCI is about to float an invitation to tender. Instead of having city-based teams, BCCI will have a zonal-based team combination for the women’s IPL. These may be Dharamshala/Jammu (North), Pune/Rajkot (West), Kochi/Visakhapatnam (South), Indore/Nagpur/Raipur (Central), Ranchi/Cuttack (East), and Guwahati (North-East).

IPL 2023 Will Return To the Home And Away Format
Since the emergence of COVID in 2020, the IPL was confined to either a single location or only 3-4 cities and stadiums. But, since the COVID threat has almost gone, cricket fans can witness their favorite teams playing in their home ground from IPL 2023. This is sure to bring back the excitement, which seemed missing.
