Emma Raducanu has achieved a milestone in her career by reaching the third round at the Australian Open for the first time after defeating Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-5. The Briton basked in her victory as the Australian crowd gave her a thunderous applause.

It wasn’t an easy match for Raducanu, 22. She was hampered by a back injury and needed to be checked up twice during the match against the American. Raducanu overcame the odds and defeated Anisimova who is ranked World No. 35. The youngster expressed exhilaration after the match, saying the victory means a lot.

Raducanu believes she played well in some big moments of the match, but had to fight hard. The 2021 US Open champion shared that she was able to push past the pain. “When you haven’t played a match in so long, then to have two physical ones I think small niggles are going to come up here and there.”

Her serves gave her the start she needed to dominate the latest match. She also received heavy ball-striking from Amanda Anisimova, 23, and lost her opening service games. Raducanu held on and clinched the set. And after a short pain management break, she turned the tables on her opponent. Raducanu earned a break point and took advantage of the American’s mistakes.

And now, Raducanu is set to face Iga Swiatek on 18th January in the third round at the Australian Open 2025.

She said that even if one is a top athlete, there’s always things they can do better. “I think I already feel a difference when I step on the court.” But Raducan doesn’t know how long it’s going to take.

She has been playing with top players. “I’m holding my own more than okay in those practices. The young tennis player believes she is getting good with every game. “I’m looking forward to putting it on the match court – I can be a dangerous opponent for anyone really.”
