WPL 2023 DC Vs GG: Ashleigh Gardner, Laura Wolvaardt power Gujarat Giants to their second win. On March 16, Delhi Capitals (DC) were up against Gujarat Giants (GG) at Brabourne Stadium In Mumbai. Meg Lanning-led Delhi Capitals are placed in second position in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) points table. Their opponent Gujarat Giants are at the bottom of the WPL 2023 points table with one win out of four games.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and choose to bowl first. Capitals boosted their batting by the inclusion of Laura Wolvaardt in the playing XI. Sophia Dunkley and Wolvaardt opened innings for the Giants. However pace-bowling all-rounder Marizanne Kapp dismissed Dunkley in the first of the game.
Next batsman Harleen Deol weaved a vital partnership with Wolvaardt for the second wicket. However, spinner Jess Jonassen sent Harleen back to the pavilion. Harleen could make 31 runs off 33 balls.

Laura Wolvaardt And Ashleigh Gardner Struck Individual Fifties
Ashleigh Gardner milked runs by smashing boundaries in all parts of the ground. Both batsmen helped the Giants get past 100 in the 16th over of the innings. Wolvaardt completed her first WPL half-century in 41 deliveries. Pacer Arundhati Reddy dismissed Wolvaardt in the penultimate over of the innings.
Wolvaardt amassed 57 runs off 45 balls with the help of six elegant fours and one six. Gardner gave the finishing touches to the total of Giants and in the process completed her fifty in just 32 balls. Gujarat Giants put up a competitive total of 147 in 20 overs after losing four wickets. Gardner remained unbeaten on 51 off 33 balls. Her sparkling knock was studded with nine stylish boundaries.
Gujarat Giants’ Sharp Fielding Pinned Down Delhi Capitals
While chasing 148, Delhi Capitals didn’t have a good start to the chase. Left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar bowled hard-hitting opener Shafali Verma for just eight. Skipper Lanning and one-down batter Alice Capsey played some attacking strokes, however, both batters were dismissed in an over by Giants skipper Sneh Rana.
Rana trapped Lanning plumb in front of the wickets; whereas Capsey got a runout due to a mix-up with the next batsman Jemimah Rodrigues. Delhi continued to lose wickets in succession. In-form all-rounder Kapp also got a runout after making 36 runs off 29 balls.
Lower-order batsmen Arundhati Reddy and Shikha Pandey fought well in the last few overs to reach their reach closer to the target, however, Reddy was caught by Rana at extra cover off pacer Kim Garth.
Gardener dismissed Poonam Yadav to wrap up the innings of the Capitals and secured the second win for the Giants in the tournament. Giants defeated Delhi by just 11 runs. Kanwar, Garth, and Gardner picked two wickets each.
