Multiple Setbacks for KKR Bowlers

KKR’s problems do not end with Akash Deep’s absence. The team is dealing with several bowling-related issues this season. Mustafizur Rahman has been released from the squad before the tournament. Harshit Rana has been ruled out due to injury concerns. Matheesha Pathirana is set to miss the first few matches. This further weakens the team’s bowling depth early in the season.

Pressure on Team Combination

Harshit Rana has also been ruled out after taking 19 wickets in IPL 2025. His absence removes a proven wicket-taking option from the squad. KKR now has very limited Indian pace options available. Kartik Tyagi, Umran Malik and Vaibhav Arora remain the available options. The team may depend heavily on overseas bowlers this season. Akash Deep was expected to bowl crucial powerplay and middle overs. His absence affects both balance and flexibility in team selection.

Strategic Challenges Ahead

IPL 2026 begins later this month with high expectations for KKR. However, these injury setbacks have forced a rethink in strategy. The franchise may look for replacement players from the domestic circuit. But finding quality pacers at short notice will not be easy. Uncapped players might get opportunities in the playing eleven. However, a lack of experience could hurt performance under pressure. KKR now face a tough challenge even before the tournament begins. Their early matches could define the direction of their IPL 2026 campaign.
