Asia Cup 2023 Squad: Sanju, Shreyas Likely To Be Dropped: Reports. Team India’s in-and-out wicket-keeper batsman and Indian Premier League (IPL) team Rajasthan Royals (RR) permanent captain Sanju Samson is likely to be dropped from India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023. According to a report published in The Time of India, Samson might not pick up the squad because of his inconsistent performance.
Kerala-born Sanju scored only 32 runs in the T20I series and contributed 72 runs, which included a half-century, in the three-match ODI series against the recently concluded India tour of West Indies. After playing 13 ODIs Sanju Samson holds a batting average of 55.71, his recent form has been concerning.
Samson’s chances are being washed by the expected return of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul, who has been out due to injury. Ishan Kishan, who has proven himself as a reliable opener-keeper, will serve as a backup option in India’s squad.
Shreyas Iyer is still not 100 percent and because of that, the selection committee is yet to name their squad for the Asia Cup. The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI’s senior selection committee is expected to announce the India squad for the Asia Cup 2023 on August 20. Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have announced their squad, whereas India, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan’s squads are yet to be announced,
