ICC ODI Rankings (Updated): India Climb Up To 2nd Spot After Asia Cup 2023 Win. After weeks of sheer dominance, Team India has finally won the 2023 Asia Cup and this might be called a major comeback for them, given the condition they were in even a few months ago. It was India’s eighth Asia Cup title.
The fans had very low hopes for this team, as injuries and poor form had made the Indian Cricket team’s overall gusto very pale. This historic victory over Sri Lanka in the final of the 2023 Asia Cup comes at a very good time, as it will give Team India great momentum for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup.
India defeated Sri Lanka in the 2023 Asia Cup final by a record margin. Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat first. Thanks to a brilliant spell by Mohammed Siraj, who ended up picking 6 wickets, Sri Lanka was all out for just 50 runs in the first innings, which put India on a higher pedestal after the first innings itself.
Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan then came in to chase down the meager total in just 6.1 overs. This was a sensational feat for Indian captain Rohit Sharma, and India has now won two Asia Cups under his captaincy.
Sri Lanka registered the 10th-lowest total in ODI history and the lowest total in the history of the Asia Cup’s ODI format today, which is highly disappointing given how well they had been playing throughout the tournament before the final.

However, after their phenomenal performance in the Asia Cup 2023, they moved up to the 2nd position. Pakistan is the 1 team in the updated ICC rankings.
Talking about the performance of India in the 2023 Asia Cup, they were pretty decent in the Group Stage, following which they bettered themselves in the Super 4. India played only one match in the Group Stage against Nepal and won it convincingly as their other match against Pakistan was called off.
In the Super 4, they defeated Sri Lanka and Pakistan pretty easily and suffered a shocking defeat against Bangladesh. In the final, however, they defeated Sri Lanka by a record-breaking margin to win the title.
