The West Indies could not stand the wrath of the select bowlers and thus, continuing the farming of their second innings at the score of 79 for 6, they were left behind by 171 runs.
Their hopes shattered completely when James Anderson dismissed Joshua Da Silva, the last recognized batter, after four overs. Da Silva managed to add just 1 run to his overnight score of 8 before his dismissal. The West Indies were bowled out for 136, with England needing less than a session on day 3. After Anderson dismissed Da Silva, debutant Gus Atkinson took the final three wickets, completing his second 5-wicket haul in the match. Atkinson equalled a record by taking a 7-wicket haul as he bowled out the West Indies for 121 in their first innings.
Having their turn to bat, England finished with a score of 371, with five players hitting half-centuries. Zak Crawley, the opener, guided the team with 76 runs, after whom Ollie Pope (57), Harry Brook (50), Joe Root (68), and new face Jamie Smith (70) batted well. As for the West Indies, Jayden Seales ended up with the best figures for the team by taking 4 wickets, wherein Jason Holder and Gudakesh Motie also spun the same into their baskets by grabbing 2 wickets each.

The victory of England in the test was worth noting yet they did not leap up to a better position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. They remained at the lowest position, but their points percentage increased from 17.5 to 25, despite the test team accumulating 33 points from 11 tests.

The West Indies’ position has also remained at the same place, i.e., the 6th position. They have descended from 33.33 to 26.66, with 16 points from 5 matches. Currently, India is at the top of the table with 68.51 percent and Australia is second with 62.5 percent. New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan complete the top five. The two winning teams will enter the final held next year.

James Anderson concluded his exceptional career as England’s fast bowler with a brilliant victory over the West Indies in the first Test at London’s famous Lord’s Cricket Ground on Friday.
Anderson demonstrated his signature abilities after a subdued first innings. In the second innings, the veteran displayed his skill in swinging the ball both ways, resulting in him taking three wickets before retiring from international cricket.
