Sri Lanka To Play A 6-Day Test Match vs New Zealand At Galle. Sri Lanka recently brought to light a remarkable six-day test match against New Zealand, which also had a rest day because of the presidential election of Sri Lanka on September 21. The first Test of the two-match series will start on September 18 in Galle. If the match is still in progress after day three, it will be halted for the election and will resume on September 22.
The inclusion of a rest day for the match which has been away for more than a decade is a new arrival on the Test match calendar since 2001 in Sri Lanka. Rest days were traditionally part of the Test format, which allowed players to take a break in the middle of the match, and thus they were common in cricket. However, these days they are mostly the last remaining in more recent years. Besides the rest day for this Test match, the addition of the rest day is a bit of a throwback to cricket history while also accommodating the major national event.

The latest Test match with a rest day occurred in Dhaka in 2008. Bangladesh had their first game of the series against Sri Lanka on December 29, which was a rest day because of a parliamentary election. In the upcoming series, Sri Lanka and New Zealand will play both Test matches in Galle. Sri Lanka and New Zealand currently hold the third and fourth positions, respectively, in the World Test Championship standings.
