When asked about the Blues’ performance, Maresca said it was a good match. He acknowledged that his side lost control for the initial 10 minutes, conceded the second goal, and for the last 10 minutes of the first half, managed to create around three clear-cut chances but unfortunately failed to score. However, in the second half Chelsea controlled the game. The Chelsea boss said his side lost the game because of ten minutes and overall played well.
New Castle manager Eddie Howe commended his team for a great game. He said the boys got their pressing attitude bang on, a lot of regains high up the pitch and got its first goal in.
