Poland is out of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament after losing to Austria 1-3 in the Group D match. Austria came on strong and dominated the match, an assisted by Phillipp Mwene and shot into the net by Gernot Trauner. The Poles gave an equalizer in the first-half with a goal from Krzysztof Piatek.

The Austrians came up more intensity in the second-half with two more scores by Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arnautovic. Poland’s star player Robert Lewandowski, who came into the game in the second half, failed to make an impact for his team.

Poland’s hope for reaching the last 16 was dashed after Netherlands and France finished their match in a 0-0 draw. This is what Group D looks like now:

Poland Faced Difficult Austria Defence UEFA EURO 2024

Poland coach Michal Probierz acknowledged that the game with Austria was a highly intensive match. He said the Poles had hoped to break through the Austrian defence in the second half. Probierz said the team can play more aggressively in their final group game against France on June 25. He highlighted that it’s still a journey and the team plays very good football.

Lewandowski, who also plays for Barcelona, expressed dismay with the loss. He said the team is depressed by the result.” Poland midfielder Przemyslaw Frankowski said they were keen on victory and now feel disappointed. He highlighted they lost an important game.

Austria Thrilled With Win in Group UEFA EURO 2024

Ralf Rangnick, Austria coach, expressed excitement with the win, saying they should have led by more than 1-0 in the first half but started losing the ball. He attributed this to the changes made to the team in the second half and took full control of the match.

Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner, 24, claimed the man of the match award. He said there was a lot of pressure on the team and happy with the win. Baumgartner added that this is just the beginning as big challenges await for them. Rangnick lauded Baumgartner saying he made a big difference.
