IPL 2023 CSK: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Camp Hint, MS Dhoni Set To Take Retirement After This Season. The 16th edition of the IPL is some days away, but there could be a bulletin about former India about MS Dhoni that might disappoint his fans globally. As per the insidesport report, the wicket-keeper batsman might announce his retirement from the league after IPL 2023 .
Chennai Super Kings camp has already hinted that the two-time world cup winning skipper might take a big decision. MS Dhoni wants to play his last IPL in front of CSK’s home ground Chepauk.
The team management as well as the franchise owners might hear this decision from the captain himself just before the tournament gets underway. One of the members of the CSK team management recently disclosed that they might get an idea just before the start of the tournament about Dhoni’s retirement from the captain.
In the middle of the last season, Dhoni had passed on the captaincy responsibility to Ravindra Jadeja but the team India’s star all-rounder wasn’t comfortable in his new role as skipper. Although one of the Chennai Super Kings team management members was quoted as saying that there won’t be any interference from any of the team management members or any of the franchise owners on whatever decision Dhoni takes.
Possible Captaincy Options For Chennai Super Kings
Chennai Super Kings have some seasoned campaigners in their dugout: Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes, and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. But Jadeja wasn’t comfortable with the captaincy in the last season so it needs to be seen who can take the responsibility. Even Maharashtra captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s name is discussed. With Ben Stokes as captain, his injury concerns might be a problem.
The issue with Stokes is that he can only be played as a batsman as he cannot bowl in all the games. Ajinkya Rahane is somewhat on the wrong side of the thirties and he might have to sit out in some games depending on the combination Chennai Super Kings team management opts for keeping in mind the opposition. The Chennai Super Kings dugout newcomers are quite new to lead the team.
Shivam Dube could be another option but he needs to perform consistently for 1-2 seasons to impress the team management as a skipper. Still, some review needs to be done by the management before coming to the final decision and obviously, MS Dhoni’s suggestions would be taken into consideration.
