Aryna Sabalenka is into the quarterfinal at the US Open 2024 after beating Elise Mertens 6-2 6-4 on Sunday night. She is the first woman to make four consecutive wins at US Open quarterfinals since the legendary Serena Williams’ six between 2011 and 2016. This will be the 10th time for the World No.2 to compete in the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam.
Sabalenka had made it to the final at US Open 2023 only to be beaten by Coco Gauff. This time around, the Belarusian has eyes on the Grand Slam title. Sabalenka, 26, will face Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen or the Croatian Donna Vekic.

Aryna Sabalenka Power Play
Sabalenka is all business at the US Open 2024 in Louis Armstrong Stadium. She has steadily ascended the tournament match after match. The Belarusian set the tempo on Sunday night as she dominated the match against Mertens by dominating the first set. She powered through the match with her aggressiveness and power play. She saved two break points in the eighth game and served out.
The former World No.1 commended her Belgian opponent for playing great tennis. Aryna said it was a tight game. She highlighted that every game was back and forth, and could have gone one way or the other. Sabalenka thanked Mertens for the high-quality game. She acknowledged that it’s never easy playing against Mertens, 28, and described her as a tricky opponent.
Win this win, she has improved her overall record to 25-6.
