Aryna Sabalenka has made it to the US Open final after beating Emma Navarro 6-3, 7-6(2) in the semi-final on Thursday night. Having finished as runner-up to Coco Gauff in 2023 at the same tournament, the Belarusian is looking to take US Open 2024 title home.
Sabalenka had a strong start against No.13 seed Navarro in a crowd-packed Arthur Ashe Stadium. She beat the Americans in an intense match in the last seven points. The crowd rose to the momentum of the game. It was a bit of a tat match as neither Sabalenka nor Navarro were ready to let it disappear.
Navarro said she wasn’t ready for the match to be over. She wanted to push the game further into a third set but couldn’t. Sabalenka came up more powerful than ever in the tiebreaker and grabbed every point, ending and winning the match 6-3, 7-6(2). Sabalenka, 26, is rightly regarded as the most powerful player in women’s tennis given her powerful serve and volleys.
