Aryna Sabalenka has added the 2025 Miami Open title to her kitty after crushing fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula in the finals on Saturday 7-5, 6-2. The Belrusian saved 7 of 11 break points while winning her 19th career title and eighth at the 1000 level. She has won 46 of her last 49 sets on American soil.
Pegula won three straight sets in the opening set in the final against Aryna Sabalenka and had a 3-2 lead. But the World No.1 won the next three games en route, winning the set. The American won the opener of the second set before her opponent took over and won four straight games. Aryna Sabalenka closed it out in 88 minutes.
Pegula, 31, fell to 2-7 all-time against Sabalenka. This includes her loss in the 2024 U.S. Open final. In the 2025 Miami Open final, Pegula saved 9 of 16 break points but committed three double faults and converted just 48.9 percent first-serve points.
The American congratulated Sabalenka on her win, saying you’re the best player in the world for a reason and you keep pushing everybody and everyone to get better.
Aryna Sabalenka Offers To Share Prize Money with Jessica Pegula
Aryna Sabalenka said she finally played her best tennis. “I’m just super happy with the result and with the performance.” The champion shared “Going into this match, I had the mentality that no matter what happens, if she’s (Jessica Pegula) gonna break me, I had the mentality to stay there, to focus on myself, to fight for every point no matter what.”
Sabalenka also apologized to Pegula for beating her in another final and offered to share her prize money. During the trophy ceremony, the Belarusian said “Jess, I’m so sorry for real. If I could share the trophy with someone, trophy, prize money, points, everything – I would share it with you.”
2025 Miami Open is Sabalenka’s second title of the season.
