IND vs NZ 2nd Test: Day 2 highlights, India-156, New Zealand Lead By 301 Runs: On Day 2 of the second Test match played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune, New Zealand consolidated their dominance over India. After managing to bundle out the home side for a mere 156 runs on Day 1, New Zealand, playing their second innings, began the day’s play at 198 runs with 5 wickets in hand. Thus, leading the match by a comfortable margin of 301 runs going into Day 3.
In the bowling department for the Indians, Washington Sundar was in excellent form, taking out batsmen who were instrumental, such as Tom Latham, who scored a vital knock of 86 runs from 133 balls. Both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja encountered some degree of difficulty on the ground. But they were unyielding, with Ashwin taking a wicket and controlling the economy.
New Zealand’s Tom Blundell assisted his side in increasing the lead with a score of 30 runs in 70 balls. Again, Washington Sundar was the star of the Indian bowling lineup. He clinched 4 wickets, including Devon Conway, Tom Latham, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell. He completes his first 10-wicket haul in a test match.
The wicket in Pune worked for the spinners; it turned out to have uneven bounce and turn, which Indian bowlers tried to take advantage. The Indian batting order that was overcome by New Zealand’s pace bowlers in the first innings faces another daunting task of hunting down what will be a fairly sizeable target set in the fourth innings.
