Jack Draper shocked tennis enthusiasts by claiming the BNP Paribas Open final against Holger Rune as the underdog. He crushed Rune 6-2, 6-2 after defeating World No.1 Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-final. Draper claimed his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells 2025.
Draper took an aggressive game-play against Rune. In a post-match interview, he said that he knew that Holger would come out and be playing some really good tennis. “So I needed to be aggressive and play to win from the first ball.” And Draper did an excellent job. He didn’t allow his opponent to play and dictated the match.
The Briton said it has been an incredible match. “I wasn’t expecting this. I’ve put in a lot of work over time and I’m just grateful and so happy to be out here to be able to play, my body being healthy, to feel great in my mind.” Draper shared that all the work he has done over the last few years feels like it’s coming together on the big stage.
The 23-year-old rose to a career-high ranking of No. 7 in his first week as a top 10 player. His latest win follows three ATP titles – the the Stuttgart ATP 250 event and Vienna ATP 500. Moreover, he is the fifth British man in history to win an ATP Masters 1000 title, joining the likes of Tim Henman, Greg Rusedski, Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie.
