Jannik Sinner has ended the 2024 season on a high with victory in the US Open final over American Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-4 7-5 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday. The Italian dashed Fritz’s ambitions of becoming the first American man to win a Grand Slam singles title in 21 years.

Sinner displayed a high-quality game and showed why he is World No. 1. He proved tough for World No. 5 Fritz who tried to keep up with the pace of the game. Sinner’s consistent volleys were too much for the Americans. Fritz was behind in the match by a set. He struck the ball into the net and leveraged Sinner with two set points.

The Italian, who dominated the game from the start, gave the crowd what it needed, a great backhand showdown. He gained technical points and two championship points, and left Fritz reeling with a forehand putaway.

Sinner also achieved the record of being the first No.1 in the PIF ATP Rankings to win the US Open since Rafael Nadal did in 2017.
