Mirra Andreeva won her second consecutive WTA 1000-level, this time at the BNP Paribas Open final, defeating World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka 2-6 6-4 6-3. The teenager has emerged as the youngest women’s champion at the tournament since Serena Williams in 1999.

Andreeva was rattled by Sabalenka’s play in the opening set. But the Russian took it in stride – shook her head, rolled her eyes, hunched her shoulders, and went at it. She told reporters that it was tough to come back. “But I tried my best and in the end, now I can look back to that moment.”

Fans witnessed the best tennis Mirra Andreeva vs. Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian gave some of her best shots, sending the teenager reeling and fuming with a backhand and a power shot.

Mirra Andreeva Fought to the End

Mirra Andreeva gave her all after she found confidence in the second set. She broke her opponent with a forehand in the third game and fended off two break points in the sixth. Sabalenka’s errors caught up and she fired into the net on the break point giving Andreeva the advantage.

The youngster admitted that she was running like a rabbit because Aryna had been sending bullets. “It was hard just to keep up. Now I’m super happy and super proud of myself.”
