South Africa batted first after New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to field. The Proteas struggled early as New Zealand bowlers removed key wickets during the powerplay and middle overs. South Africa was reduced to 77 for five and faced serious pressure.
Marco Jansen then played a brilliant counterattacking innings to revive the total. He scored an unbeaten 55 off 30 balls with several powerful boundaries. Dewald Brevis scored 34 while Tristan Stubbs contributed 29 runs. South Africa finished with 169 for eight in 20 overs. Matt Henry, Rachin Ravindra and Cole McConchie took two wickets each.
New Zealand began the chase with explosive intent through openers Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. Both batters dominated the South African bowling attack from the very first over. New Zealand scored 84 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket. The aggressive start placed South Africa under huge pressure immediately. Allen attacked every bowler and struck boundaries across the ground.
Fastest Hundred by Finn Allen
Finn Allen delivered one of the most memorable innings of the tournament. He smashed a stunning century, scoring 100 runs from only 33 balls. Allen also reached his half-century in just 19 balls. This was the joint fastest fifty of the 2026 T20 World Cup. Tim Seifert provided excellent support with a calm and controlled innings. He scored 58 runs from 33 balls and rotated the strike effectively. The opening pair added a remarkable 100-run partnership in only 7.5 overs.

New Zealand chased the target of 170 in only 12.5 overs. The team finished at 170 for one and won the match by nine wickets. South Africa’s bowlers had no answer to the aggressive Kiwi batting display. Finn Allen was named Player of the Match for his match-winning century. New Zealand will now play the final against the winner of the India and England semi-final.
