Paris Olympics 2024: CAS Rejects Vinesh Phogat’s Petition For Shared Silver Medal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected Vinesh Phogat’s appeal, thus upholding her disqualification from the Paris 2024 Olympics. As the media sources pointed out, this ruling also means that Phogat is not going to be titled as a joint silver medalist. The latter title was handed to her individually in the earlier competition.
According to RevSportz Global, Vinesh Phogat petition was rejected, which has been pointed out as the key to the order. The Tribunal of Sports (CAS) has not officially declared anything yet. The final decision, which has already been postponed thrice, was supposed to be announced by 9:30 pm IST on August 16, but according to the CAS announcement made on Tuesday, it has been delayed.

Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris 2024 Olympics because she was 100 grams over the weight limit for her 50kg wrestling category during the final weigh-in. Although she made the weight on the first day of the competition, the rules require another weigh-in on the day of the finals, and failing this weigh-in leads to disqualification.

Vinesh Phogat’s group went all out to support her in weight loss by using such difficult measures as starvation, over-exercising, and even cutting her hair. However, she still came in slightly over the limit. Consequently, Vinesh Phogat wasn’t able to take part in the last game, which meant that she had to forfeit all the games she won prior. Thus her disqualification and not being able to compete in the final ensured that all her victories in the tournament were rendered null and void.
