Reliance Jio-Disney Hotstar Merger Complete, JioStar Launched: Reliance Industries and Disney have successfully concluded a remarkable venture, unifying quite a number of the most vital overtures in entertainment. This joins Reliance’s Viacom18 and Disney’s Star India networks to create a hybrid of India’s entertainment network in a bid to enhance digital and TV viewership by forming JioStar.
Strategic Vision of the Newly Created Joint Venture
The joint venture, which is estimated to be worth ₹70,352 crore (about $8.5 billion), leverages Reliance’s knowledge of the local market and the reach of content from Disney worldwide. The entertainment empire will house more than a hundred channels, including the likes of Star Plus, Colours, Star Gold, and Star Sports, as well as connected services JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar.
The target of this initiative is to offer rich and varied entertainment content to more than 750 million people in India and the Indian community across the world.

Leadership and Governance Structure
The venture will be presided over by Nita Ambani, while Uday Shankar will take up the position of Vice Chairperson, who brings valuable experience having co-founded and played an active role in the Indian media market. The two are expected to steer the direction of the venture while enhancing content and penetration into the markets.
Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of the Board of Reliance Industries, pointed out that this venture would provide a platform where quality content will be within reach of more people at a lower cost, thereby promoting the digital shift in India.
