World No.1 Iga Swiatek will try to oust defending champion Coco Gauff, who defeated France’s Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-0 in the first match of the US Open 2024. Gauff emerged as the first American teenager, since Serena Williams in 1999, to win the US Open title.

Swiatek has set high hopes for the US Open. The 2022 US Open champion will attempt to break her losing spree on the hard court. She told the media in Cincinnati last week that she doesn’t feel comfortable on the court. Swiatek shared that she just couldn’t play naturally.

The hard court is a challenge for the Polish tennis player, but Aryna Sabalenka is holding her own. She is already into round three at the US Open 2024. Sabalenka defeated Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday. She will face Ekaterina Alexandrova No. 29 seed.
