Tokyo Olympics 2020 is scheduled to start on July 23, after a year-long delay due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first time in the history of the Olympics that the Games have been postponed and rescheduled, rather than canceled.
The opening ceremony will take place on July 23 at the newly-built National Stadium in Tokyo while the closing ceremony of Olympics 2020 will be held on August 8, 2021, at the same venue.

Despite being postponed and rescheduled for 2021, the world’s biggest sports mega-event retains the Tokyo 2020 name for branding and marketing purposes.
Olympics 2021 will see the introduction of new competitions Madison cycling including 3×3 basketball and, freestyle BMX, as well as further mixed events. These Games will see sport climbing, surfing, karate, and skateboarding make their Olympic debuts, as well as the return of softball and baseball for the first time since the 2008 Olympics.
After the opening ceremony, on July 23, Friday evening the Tokyo Olympics games take place over 16 days.
