Wanindu Hasaranga Ruled Out

Wanindu Hasaranga Ruled Out of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Sri Lanka has suffered a major blow in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The injury occurred during Sri Lanka’s Group B opener in Colombo on Sunday. Hasaranga pulled his hamstring while bowling in the middle overs. Despite visible discomfort, he completed his full four-over spell.

Sri Lanka defended a target of 163 for six in that match. They went on to secure a convincing 20-run victory. Hasaranga finished with impressive figures of three wickets for 25 runs. His spell played a key role in controlling the chase. However, post-match medical checks raised serious concerns. An MRI scan later confirmed a significant hamstring tear.

Team doctors advised rest and rehabilitation. Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed he will miss the remainder of the tournament. The news has come as a major setback for the hosts. Hasaranga is Sri Lanka’s most important T20 match-winner. He is known for breaking partnerships with attacking leg-spin. He also provides explosive hitting in the lower batting order.

Dushan Hemantha likely to be named replacement

Hasaranga is the second-highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. His absence leaves a huge gap in both departments. Sri Lanka is already missing injured pacer Eshan Malinga. The team management is now forced to reshuffle plans. Sri Lanka Cricket has approached the ICC for a replacement. Leg-spin all-rounder Dushan Hemantha is likely to be named a replacement. Hemantha offers a similar leg-spin skill set. He has performed well in domestic and franchise cricket. However, his international experience remains limited.
