Despite a scoreless draw in the Champions League match against Atalanta, Arsenal has secured a point thanks to its heroic goalkeeper David Raya. He saved the day for the Gunners pending Mateo Retegui’s 51st-minute penalty.
Arsenal has come a long way. It hasn’t been up to par looking at the team’s three defeats in their five away matches in Europe last season. But then, the Gunners are full of surprises. Last season it won 35 times in all competitions from 52 games, and picked up 89 points in the Premier League. The club began 2024 with eight successive league victories.
Thursday’s opening Champions League match for Arsenal was a tightly contested tactical battle against Atalanta. The English side had a good start. Bukayo Saka came close to a score but Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made a narrow save.
The Italian team proved strong, with its defense a tough wall to break. The match was worth it as both sides kept the pressure on to the last minute, and both their goalkeepers made the saves.
