More than 30 teams are playing the UEFA Champions League 2024-25 season, but there are shared concerns surrounding the new format. PSG won its opening match against Girona on Wednesday 1-0 and has seven more matches to play.
Luis Enrique is treading cautiously. The Paris Saint-Germain manager says the new format seems complicated and it might take them some time to figure it out and realize the importance of their win. He said the league phase might take a negative toll on the competing teams.
Enrique highlighted that winning a match or title is difficult, but they have no clue about where they are going with the Champions League 2024-25new format. He said they have to play matches against teams that have easier schedules than PSG’s. Enrique also put the spotlight on the points. He said there are many unknowns and a need for clarity.

PSG Had A Tough Match Against Girona
In regards to Paris Saint-Germain’s first match, Enrique said it was a tough one. He believes the Spanish team played them in circles. But PSG was superior and came out as winners. Enrique said he told the boys at half-time that if they didn’t press, they would lose and PSG had to win anyhow. The French team pressed on and crushed Girona 1-0.
Enrique said the boys fought until the last minute and won a satisfying victory. But PSG’s victory came at a cost. Their striker Marco Asensio sustained an injury. He limped off the field just before half-time. Meanwhile, Girona has vowed to rise stronger and with goals.
Michel, Girona manager, said his side played well despite the loss to PSG. He acknowledged that the opponents goalie made some excellent saves.
