Real Madrid is keen to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as discussions between Liverpool and the midfielder about the contract extension have stalled.
Reports suggest that Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Los Blancos in the January transfer window. But Real Madrid is treading cautiously given the club’s long-standing friendly relations with Anfield. Real Madrid and Liverpool have maintained a positive rapport and have witnessed dealings respectfully.
Alexander-Arnold, 26, has been waiting for Liverpool to renew his contract which expires in June 2025. He has played over 300 matches for the club, scored 19 goals, made 83 assists, and played it to win nearly every trophy.
Ian Wright, a former footballer turned radio commentator, described Liverpool’s silence on Alexander-Arnold as crazy. He highlighted that the young footballer has won the Premier League, the Champions League, the World Club Cup, the FA Cup, the League Cup – he’s won everything and done it for his hometown club Liverpool.
Real Madrid is Right for Trent Alexander-Arnold
Arne Slot, Liverpool’s manager, said Alexander-Arnold was and is still important in Liverpool’s attacking strategy. He added that the footballer has done very well this season and done well for the national team – three times Man of the Match. Slot hopes that Alexander-Arnold also becomes Man of the Match for Liverpool.
Speculations are that Liverpool is looking at ways to generate a handsome amount from Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure. Stakes will be high if Liverpool indeed puts its star midfielder up for sale.
Arnold has displayed his prowess in the field, commitment to the club and his career. If he is to move, Real Madrid is the right club for him to grow in. It’s to be seen where he will spend the pre-season before the 2025-26 – in Liverpool or Real Madrid.
