India beat Great Britain in the quarterfinal shoot-out

India men’s hockey team is into the semi-finals after defeating Great Britain in a shoot-out 4-2 at the Stade Yves-du-Manoir in Paris. The shoot-out came after a 1-1 draw at full-time. Despite playing with 10 players, the Indian team proved to be a challenge for Great Britain as it failed to break the draw.

The first half was intense as both teams tried to break the net but futile as their respective goalkeepers’ defenses were strong. The India team suffered a setback when Amit Rohidas was given a red card in the 17th minute after his hockey stick struck an opponent player’s face.

Great Britain failed to take advantage of team India which was a man short. The Indian team put up a strong defense that made it difficult for the opponent to penetrate. Captain Harmanpreet Singh saw his chance and put India in the lead in the 22nd minute. But Great Britain quickly equalized in the 27th minute through Lee Morton.

A few minutes later Great Britain’s Rupert Shipperley was given a green card, a temporary relief for India as both teams played with 10 men each for a while.

India Hockey Team Proved Too Strong For Great Britain

In the second half, both teams came in stronger and determined to break the draw. Great Britain tried to penetrate India’s defense, which was one man down, but couldn’t. India proved very strong on counterattacks. Abhishek attempted to score but was saved by Great Britain’s goalkeeper Ollie Payne.

With a 1-1 draw at full-time, the match went into a shoot-out. For India Harmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh and Lalit Kumar Upadhyay scored, with the winning shot from Rajkumar Pal. India won 4-2.
