Jannik Sinner is into the US Open final after defeating World No. 25 Jack Draper 7-5, 7-6 (3) 6-2 in the semi-final. Sinner took on Draper in an electrifying match that was intense right from the word go. The Italian played relentlessly, grinding down his opponent who struggled with humidity at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, and the pace of the match.

Jack, who was also struggling with an upset stomach, gave his all. World No.1 Sinner was also challenged when he tweaked his left wrist in the second set. Both players had medical timeouts, in the dramatic match.

Sinner, who won the Australian Open 2024 and the recent Cincinnati Open, closed in fast, fired winning shots and nailed victory against the Britisher. He will face Taylor Fritz in the final.

Jannik Sinner and Jack Draper Are Good Friends

Sinner and Draper faced off for the first-time at the US Open 2024 semi-final since 2021 Queen’s Club. This was also their first US Open semi-final. In a post-match interview, Draper, 22, revealed that Sinner is a good, close friend. He shared that they send each other messages in good and bad moments.

Draper said tennis is a tough sport to play when one is young, always on the road, and playing relentless, tough sport physically and emotionally. He added it’s difficult and there aren’t many friends. Draper lauded Sinner as a top player with a lot of intensity and energy, that can go on for sets.

About his on-court illness and repeated vomiting episodes, Draper said it’s the worst feeling ever. He highlighted that one cannot move around the court and its uncomfortable. The British tennis player said during the semi-final match, he felt very sick at the end of the first set. He highlighted that there was no problem before the match.

Draper said when players are in long matches, they need to drink and be able to eat to give their bodies the supplies it needs to keep on going. But one cannot put anything in when they are sick.
