It was a little bit of everything in the quarterfinal match between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev at the US Open. But Sinner reigned 6-2 1-6 6-1 6-4 in the end over the Russian player. This is the first time for the World No.1 to reach the semi-final at the US Open.
In the beginning, there was little rhythm in the match as Sinner and Medvedev volleyed back and forth. The match grew steadily and reached its momentum. There was a competitive fierceness in Medvedev, but the Italian played with his cool and calm composure.
He had control of the game and showed his backhand now and then. Medvedev, 28, tried to keep up with Sinner’s tricks and powerful backhand, and unpredictable shifts. He forced the match into four lengthy matches, only to lose to his skillful opponent.
Sinner, 23, is the third Italian man in the Open Era to have achieved this record, after Corrado Barazzutti and Matteo Berrettini. He is set to face Jack Draper.
