Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia proved to be a tough opponent for India’s Lakshya Sen in tit-for-tat sets for badminton bronze. It was a thrilling neck-to-neck dual, fight from the first serve. Sen and Jia won a set each and the decider for the bronze medal went into the third round. Jia defeated Sen 13-21, 21-16, 21-11.
Jia lost the first set while Sen lost the second 21-16, but made a strong comeback in the third set. 22 years old Lakshya Sen, 22, went into the tussle for the bronze medal after he lost to World No.2 of Denmark Viktor Axelsen. The Indian shuttler determined to get a medal for the country went into the bronze match. Jia broke his defense and snatched away the bronze.
Lakshya Sen Falls Short
But he fell short in the third set. This was a breakout tournament for Sen, but his dream of clinching an Olympic medal for India remains a dream. Sen proved to be great at his game with even Axelsen commending him for dominating various phases of the match.

Paris Olympics proved to be a dismay for the Indian badminton squad as it returned home without medals. But they – Dipankar Bhattacharya, Nikhil Kanetkar, Pullela Gopichand, Anup Sridhar, Parupalli Kashyap, Kidambi Srikanth, B Sai Praneeth, HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen gave in their all. Their shone India’s name at the international sporting event that’s held every four years.
