Antony, the second-most expensive player in Manchester United’s history, seems to have gotten off to a wrong start with manager Erik ten Hag. There’s pressure on the team to perform. Man United recorded its lowest-ever Premier League finish, at eighth in the table. The club also finished at the bottom of the Champions League group but managed to finish the season on a high after beating Manchester City and winning the FA Cup.
Ten Hag is feeling the pressure and wants his players to perform. He highlighted that Antony, 24, whom Manchester United signed for £82 million from Ajax in 2022, has to earn the right to play for the club. The manager said the footballer is in charge of his destiny.
Antony has played in 83 games for Manchester United, scoring 11 goals and five assists. So far, the right-winger had played only once – an 89th-minute replacement last month against Brighton.

Antony Must Follow Rules
Ten Hag acknowledged that it must be difficult for Antony, but the fact is that the club has prioritized two homegrown players. He explained that this is professional football and Manchester United wants to be at the top. The manager said there are rules and laws to be followed.
The Dutchman pointed out that every football club picks a team with the most chance of winning a game, and players have to fight for their positions. He said coaches pick players who are the best, who have the best dynamic, best chemistry.
Ten Hag praised Diallo and Garnacho who are from the academy, into the team and made it into the selection. He highlighted that all the players are doing well – Amad, Garna, and Marcus Rashford who helped Manchester United win 3-0 against Southampton over the weekend. The manager said it’s all about performance in training and the right attitude.
