Rafael Nadal’s coach Carlos Moya says Rafa and Carlos Alcaraz’s doubles pairing makes an iconic image that could define an era. He is all praises after having watched the duo’s training session from the courtside for doubles at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Moya said Nadal is experience and charisma, while Carlos is expressive and effusive, kind of like the 22-time Grand Slam champion when he was 20 or 21. He hopes the two will keep going as tennis fans can fall in love with Rafa and Carlos’ partnership.
Nadal is also excited about the partnership. He said it’s more than about understanding one another. The former World No. 1 believes to play doubles well, one needs to play individually. Nadal, 38, highlighted that Carlos hasn’t played for a long time, while he just played two days last week at the Sweden Open. He said they have to make the doubles movements automatic, way different from those in a singles match.
Carlos Alcaraz is Headed for Greatness
The two-time Olympic medalist said they have to know where to return and select the right shot. Nadal shared that it gets better with each game, and more comfortable. The tennis great acknowledged that they all make mistakes from time to time, but he doubts their opponents will. Nadal said their opponents will be better, stronger, and more competitive.
He lauded Carlos as a brilliant all-round player. The 14-time French Open champion believes the youngster’s fitness level and form sets him apart. Nadal said Carlos, given his youth and physical power, can move quickly on the court, shine with his skills and talent, and get through situations. He feels the young Spaniard is destined to be one of the all-time greats.
