England Beat Bangladesh In Their First Match By 21 Runs: Women’s T20 World Cup: In their first match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, held in Sharjah, England managed to win by 21 runs over Bangladesh. Upon winning the toss, the girls from England decided to bat first and set a quite low target of 118/7.
It was the opening pair of Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Maia Bouchier who set the platform for England, as they scored 48 runs in the first wicket partnership. Striking a measured 41 off 40 balls, Wyatt-Hodge was the highest scorer, but the middle order collapsed due to pressure from the bowlers of Bangladesh.
Nahida Akter and Fahima Khatun were the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, both taking two wickets each, which helped to restrict England’s score. Rabeya Khan also bowled well, with figures of 1/22, and helped in curtailing the runs scored by England.
Chasing 119 runs in their second inning, Bangladesh also couldn’t pick the pace. Sobhana Mostary was the only one who managed to hold the fort for any length of time, as she contributed 44 runs but wickets were falling at the other end. The batters couldn’t rotate the strike as well, and the spin duo of Linsey Smith (2/11) and Charlie Dean (2/22) allowed no loose balls for the Bangladeshi batters. Bangladesh’s innings also barely went above the 100-run mark as they scored 97 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and thus lost the match by 21 runs.
