IND vs AUS 5th Test, Day 1: India Struggles as Australia Dominates Opening Day: The fifth and final Test match between India and Australia began at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). India, opting to bat first owing to the overcast conditions, had an absolutely wretched day, bowled out for a meagre total of 185 runs in 72.2 overs.

India’s Innings on Day 2 of IND vs AUS 5th Test

The Indian batting lineup failed to hold its own against the disciplined Australian attack. Rishabh Pant scored a modest 40 runs, but the innings still showed signs of fighting back after some resilient blows. Quickfire 22 came in the form of 17 balls from captain Jasprit Bumrah; it was a little late for the innings to try and counter, but even that was too little given that much of the rest of the lower-order batting has managed very little by way of partnerships across the line, saving for a handful of synecdoche that had produced a disappointing total.

Australian Bowling Highlights

Scott Boland starred in the Australian bowling attack with 4 wickets for 31 runs. His line and length were consistently a trial for the Indian batsmen throughout the innings. He had the backs of Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon, who took two critical last wickets to tear through India’s batting line-up.

Australia’s Answer

A very short spell before stumps saw Australia make it to 9 for 1 in just 3 overs. Jasprit Bumrah struck early for India, dismissing Usman Khawaja for 2. Sam Konstas was not out on 7 with Marnus Labuschagne yet to open his account.

Controversial Moments

There was some drama on the day too. Shubman Gill and Steve Smith had a few verbal exchanges on the field before Gill got his marching orders after being caught by Smith off Nathan Lyon’s bowling. There was also an inconclusive evidence call about a catch involving Smith and Kohli that added to the growing tension of the day.
