Rodri has been recognized with the Ballon d’Or 2024 – the Golden Ball – for a memorable 2023-24 campaign. He has shown his skills and talent over the past couple of seasons with Manchester City and Spain in the UEFA EURO 2024 Cup.
However, the 2024 Ballon d’Or didn’t go down without controversy. Real Madrid took it personally as their star player Vinicius Junior was left out. The La Liga club boycotted the event. Vini Jr. was one of the favorites in the build-up to the 2024 Ballon’Or, but he didn’t win.
Real Madrid said that if the award criteria doesn’t give it to Vinicius as the winner, then Dani Carvajal should be the winner. It highlighted that Ballon d’Or does not respect Real Madrid. But the club won the 2024 Men’s Club of the Year award.
Rodri, 28, stood up to the occasion as the third footballer after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to win the prestigious award Men’s Ballon d’Or since 2008.
