Pakistan is celebrating Arshad Nadeem’s monster throw of 92.97m and the Olympic gold medal as a historic win for the nation at the Stade de France, Paris Olympics. Nadeem left the world shocked with his gigantic throw and claimed Pakistan’s first individual gold medal.
The javelin-throwing champion said his achievement was possible because of his training and hard work. Nadeem, 27, defeated India’s Neeraj Chopra who won a silver medal for his 89.45 m throw. Anderson Peters, from Grenada, claimed bronze for his 88.54 m.
Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described Nadeem’s feat. as a remarkable achievement and testament to the athlete’s unwavering dedication, and unrelenting perseverance. It said his triumph is a resounding affirmation of Pakistan’s talent and determination, as well as the country’s potential.
The Dawn, a Pakistani newspaper ran the headline ‘Politicians, cricketers hail Arshad Nadeem as ‘national hero’ after Olympics feat’, while The Express Tribune ran ‘I felt it leave my hand and sensed it could be an Olympic record’: Gold medalist Arshad Nadeem’. On the other hand, Al Jazeera highlighted India’s ace javelin thrower in the same headline ‘Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem beats Neeraj Chopra to win Olympic gold in javelin.
Arshad Nadeem Won Pakistan’s First Individual Gold Medal In Olympics
Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former prime minister, applauded Nadeem’s persistence and perseverance. He said Nadeem has made Pakistan proud. Men’s head coach Saqlain Mushtaq was all praises for the javelin champion. He said Nadeem’s incredible achievement has brought immense pride and joy to Pakistan, and his victory will be remembered for generations.
Mazher Arshad, a cricket analyst, believes this is one of the greatest days in Pakistan’s history. He highlighted that Nadeem won the first-ever individual gold for the country in the Olympics.
Nadeem helped Pakistan clinch its first individual gold medal, since 1988. Pakistani athletes won individual medals, bronze in wrestling in 1960 and bronze in boxing in 1988. The country claimed three gold medals in hockey in 1960, 1968, and 1984. However, since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, it hadn’t won any medals, till Nadeem’s feat at the Paris Olympics.
