WTC 2025: Points table updated after England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test at Lord’s: The second Test match between England and Sri Lanka came to an end at Lord’s. Witnessed England winning by 190 runs and winning the series 2-0. After the series win England reached on 4th position in the WTC 2025 points table.

Starting invincible, England went on to score 427 runs first, with Joe Root leading them with a magical performance of 143 runs while Gus Atkinson contributed with a crucial 118 runs for the team. On the other hand, Sri Lanka was all out for 196 runs, where Kamindu Mendis topped up the scoring with only 74 runs.


In their second inning, England totalled an additional 251 runs, led again by Root’s fluid innings of 103 runs, which were supported by Harry Brook’s quickfire 37 runs. Sri Lanka gave out some fight in their second inning as they had Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal, who both scored over fifty, though they could not make it as they got bowled out for just 292 runs. The best player during this match was Gus Atkinson, who bowled well, getting five wickets in this innings.

The win has also given England an even more firm hold on this series, placing them higher up in the ICC World Test Championship rankings. Success for England has been significantly attributed to great Joe Root, whose twin centuries in the match played a significant role in his country’s success.

The update of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings comes soon after the ending of the second Test between England vs Sri Lanka, portraying major changes. England have improved their ranking and now hold a percentage of points (PCT) at 45%. Therefore, they survived in their ambitions to reach the WTC final since they won their eighth game during this cycle. In contrast, Sri Lanka’s PCT went down to 33.33% due to defeat. Being in the seventh position makes it difficult for them to make it to the finals.

With 68.52% PCT on top, India’s name tops that chart, followed by Australia and New Zealand closely behind in terms of performance so far when looking at WTC standings as it goes into its next phase, where several teams like England are using their recent performances as springs for high hopes.
